Step back! There's no telling how big this thing may get!

Howdy Folks! I have been asked to blog by a dear friend of mine, Rochelle Gates, so I guess I'll give it a go! I have been writing a goat column called the Goat Gossip since August 2006. It started out as an informational column for The East Texas Farm & Ranch and expanded to several area and even a fine national Magazine, The Meat Goat Monthly. I can say that I have written the column every two weeks for over 130 Gossips and have outlasted my original paper the ETF&R! With the cessation of the publishing that paper I have decided to write the column  monthly and I guess Rochelle figures I have too much time on my hands so she asked me to write this blog.
The goat industry is a constantly changing thing. I will offer that it will get much bigger with the economy the way it is. This economy, which is in a flux, has affected just about every country around the globe. It has greatly affected the goat business because our main exporters of goat meat, Australia and New Zealand are in an economic slump also. Because their money is devalued to our dollar, it's making it more expensive to slaughter and ship goat meat to the United States.
How does this affect Sam Simpson of Sonora? Sam is getting prices for his goats that are sky high! Added to the drought conditions over the main goat raising part of the country this global economic slump has created the perfect market for domestic goat raisers. Folks from strife filled areas of the world are immigrating to the U.S. and most of those folks love to eat goat meat and enjoy dairy products made from delicious goats milk. Locavores and Foodies all over the U.S. are attracted to the wholesomeness and health benefits of lean chevon.
The money is out there. All we have to do is reach out and grab it. Whoever can start producing market goats on a regular basis and can offer a steady supply of goat meat stands to make a mint. The market is poised to take off. There's no telling how big this thing may get!

  1. Good form ol' boy! It appears as though I may have had something to do with you becoming a blogasauris...lol. Afterall how can there be a goat gossip site without the original Mr. Goat Gossip himself. Oh now don't get all fussy just yet. She roped me into it as well. Who knows? Maybe someone will actually read our ramblings and take something valuable away from them. Happy posting my friend! And try to keep warm! I'm on the boat for three more weeks. But I'll be home for Christmas and the New Year celebration! Should find out in a week if a couple of the girls I bought from you are carrying precious cargo! I'll keep you posted!

  2. "Who knows? Maybe someone will actually read our ramblings and take something valuable away from them." You two crack me up. And thank you both for doing this, I know many will take much away from this.
